Semi-private speedboats carry up to 20 passengers, reach the islands faster, spend less time queuing at popular spots, and typically include a French-speaking guide for around 4,400 THB. It depends on your priorities. The big boat tour is the cheapest way to see Ang Thong and works well if budget is the main constraint and you don’t mind crowded boats and queues. However, you spend more time travelling (slower boats), share the lagoon viewpoint and kayaks with hundreds of other tourists, and the experience is more rushed. Semi-private speedboats cost about 3.5x more but cut transit time in half and let you actually enjoy each stop.

The price is per boat, not per person, so the more friends or family members on board, the lower the cost per head. A group of 8 pays around 4,500 THB each — the same as a semi-private ticket, but with the boat entirely to yourselves.
Semi-private speedboats are usually the best balance for families: the smaller group means easier supervision, the bilingual guide can adapt explanations to children, and the shorter sea travel reduces seasickness. For families with very young children (under 5) or anyone needing total flexibility (nap times, snack breaks), a private charter is the most comfortable option. Big boats are not ideal for very young children due to crowding and longer transit.
Almost never. Big boat operators typically only provide English-speaking guides (and sometimes Mandarin or Russian, rarely French).
